Using Robots To Teach Humans Motor Skills

چکیده

One such approach is that of haptic training. The training of perceptual motor skills has been the application of several virtual environments. In addition to demonstrating the impact of visual cues on the acquisition of motor skills, studies have also been performed on the role of force and motion feedback in virtual environment training. This has been explored by Feygin, D et al in [1]. In this paper, the approach of haptic training has been compared to other forms of training to examine its usefulness for the development of a perceptual motor skill. This approach, with reference to the afore mentioned paper, will be investigated in the following sections.

Personalized Instruction of Physical Skills with a Social Robot

While robots have been used extensively for the purpose of teaching symbolic knowledge, using robots to teach or refine motor skills of humans, such as swinging a bat, or shooting a basketball, is underserved. Robots are uniquely well situated to observe physical movements, identify problems, prioritize which problems to address first, and to patiently communicate personalized advice to the stu...

Imitation learning of motor primitives and language bootstrapping in robots

Imitation learning in robots, also called programing by demonstration, has made important advances in recent years, allowing humans to teach context dependant motor skills/tasks to robots. We propose to extend the usual contexts investigated to also include acoustic linguistic expressions that might denote a given motor skill, and thus we target joint learning of the motor skills and their pote...

Exploiting Human Motor Skills for Training Bipedal Robots Undergraduate Honors Thesis

Although machine learning, reinforcement learning, and learning from demonstration have improved the rate and accuracy at which robots can gain intelligence from humans, they haven’t reached the rapid rate at which humans are able to acquire new knowledge. Many systems that exploit imitation learning use simple positive and negative reinforcement, and place the burden of learning completely on ...

Approaches for Learning Human-like Motor Skills which Require Variable Stiffness During Execution

Humans employ varying stiffness in everyday life for almost all human motor skills, using both passive and active compliance. Robots have only recently acquired variable passive stiffness actuators and they are not yet mature. Active compliance controllers have existed for a longer time, but the problem of automatic determination of the necessary compliance to achieve a task has not been thorou...

Beyond Teleoperation: Exploiting Human Motor Skills with MARIOnET

Although machine learning has improved the rate and accuracy at which robots are able to learn, there still exist tasks for which humans can improve performance significantly faster and more robustly than computers. While some ongoing work considers the role of human reinforcement in intelligent algorithms, the burden of learning is often placed solely on the computer. These approaches neglect ...
